Pinnacle of Service
I was one of a team of four who worked on the 2002 Pinnacle of Terror team in Tasmania.
The thought of doing a year of volunteer work had been plaguing me for awhile. Finally, I gave in and took up the challenge. I applied for the Pinnacle of Terror because I liked the idea of being part of a team that was focused on working for God.
We did so many things during the year that it is hard to choose one highlight. A continual highlight was what happened when we ran a Pinnacle program. The people who came to experience the Pinnacle were from many different walks of life. Some were gung-ho and wouldn't stop at any challenge we’d give them. These were the adrenaline junkies. Others, well, you could see the fear in their eyes. It was the latter I found most rewarding to work with. Tears often welled up in my eyes as I watched them conquer their fears and succeed at something they never thought they could. These were the ones who walked away with infinitely more than what they came with.
I can honestly say my volunteer year was the most challenging year of my entire life. But I wouldn't trade it for anything. I learned so many valuable things about myself and life.
Just like the people I mentioned earlier who would walk away with more than what they came with, I was faced with things during that year I never thought I would be able to conquer. But, through the power of God, I did and at the end of the year I too walked away with infinitely more than what I came with.
So what’s the bottom line? When God calls you to do something, He never says it will be easy. How can it be when the devil is working so hard to stop people having God moments? However, Paul has something to say about all this. In 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 he says that it is during these weak times that God is strongest.
So, if you’re thinking about giving a year of the life God gave you back to Him—just do it! And, don't be afraid to ask for blessings along the way. He will bless you, far beyond your wildest dreams.
My experience tells me you won’t regret it.
