My Opinion:
Schoolies Week . . .
During November school leavers hit several tourist destinations to celebrate finishing high school. As an alternative this year, some Adventists in Victoria are facilitating a weekend camp that will help young adults address issues such as suicide and depression, alcohol and drug abuse, searching for significance and relationships (see www.quietstorm.net.au). We asked readers:
Are you or your friends planning to attend schoolies week?
Or is your church hosting an alternative event?
Do you think Christians should avoid the masses at secular destinations and hold their own seperate events? Or do you think Christians should head to the same areas and show an alternative way of celebrating to everyone?
Amy, Victoria
Schoolies is a great idea but after hearing the downside of schoolies such as cost and safety, I feel there are better ways to do schoolies week. To avoid the masses at secular destinations, Christians should run their own schoolies weekend.

I think we shouldn’t avoid them. Didn’t Jesus say to be in the world but not a part of the world? He was friends with people that made dumb decisions but He didn't do any of it. He set a great example. It’s a good idea to deal with issues such as suicide and depression, but the point of schoolies is to relax and have fun. I’d rather go to a camp based on having fun than one dealing with depressing issues.
