WA youth kept up to date with SMS

The Western Australian Conference Youth Ministries Department is now sending text messages to the mobiles of the young people in their conference to inform them of coming events.
SMSs are sent before all significant youth events, such as youth rallies, and include the what, where, when and who of the event.
The free service is available to all WA Conference young people who want to receive such communication.
Following a week-long youth evangelistic series, the youth department found that even after putting up posters, handing out business cards, having notices in church bulletins and advertising in their monthly youth newsletter, young people were still saying, “We didn’t hear about it.”
Realising the money spent on current advertising methods was not working, the idea of using SMS was born at a WA youth advisory in July.
“The number of subscribers has already passed 85 and is growing weekly,” says Leesa Fowler, WA youth ministries secretary. “We will continue to use email and ‘snail mail’ but we are hoping this will help us inform our youth about what’s happening in WA.”—Scott Wegener
