PAU's graduating class raises funds for shelter

The 2006 graduating class of Pacific Adventist University (PAU) on the outskirts of Port Moresby is giving back to the university in the form of a shelter for patients, as its token of appreciation for their years of education.
The class hosted a breakfast on October 29 on campus and raised K6500 for the building of a shelter for patients at the new health science clinic block.
Several pledges and donations should see the figure rise to K8000. Inhabitants of the city from all walks of life, students and families from the university, attended the breakfast. Among them was Anglimp-South Waghi MP Jamie Maxtone-Graham.
They were entertained by PAU’s talented singing groups, including Art of Praise, Oikos, Authentic and The One Pacifica.
The guest speaker, Ivan Pomaleu, managing director of the Investment Promotion Authority, challenged the students to use the knowledge they acquired from PAU to bring about positive changes in their communities, societies and the region as a whole. “Be pebbles that will create ripples of positive change in the vast Pacific Ocean,” he said.
Mr Pomaleu told the graduating students that they represented the cream of the crop at family, community and country levels and should use their knowledge and skills positively and wisely.
Meanwhile, Solicitor-General Fraser Pitpit also encouraged the students to show the values the university had imparted to them. Mr Pitpit donated K2000 toward the project.—Edna Worri
