College students set STORM Co record

A record 110 Avondale College students were part of the six STORM (Service to Others Really Matters) Co teams that went to communities all over New South Wales during the college’s midyear break.
College chaplain Dr Wayne French says, “STORM Co is popular because people want to serve and live out their Christianity. They want to put Christianity into action.”
The teams left college in the first week of the holidays in July—some starting out at 6.30 am—and travelled to Bourke, Coonabarabran, Gadooga, Gwabegar, Macquarie Fields and Moree, spending seven to 10 days running children’s clubs, some with more than 100 children attending, and serving the community.
At Moree, the team had a painting project to complete, which involved covering graffiti with a mural 40 metres long. Other activities ranged from playing touch football with the locals to presenting evangelistic programs.
Many of the students returning from their adventures reflected positively on the experience. Monique Rogers, a member of the Bourke team, says she felt God’s influence around them.
“I saw God everywhere,” she says. “It was challenging, but at the same time I saw God working through us and guiding us to do what He wanted.”
Another Bourke team member, Corina Goncalves, says, “It’s amazing to see what God can do with one small idea and what it becomes when you dedicate it to Him. He makes something huge.”—Elly Lukale
