Album: Wright or Wrong These Songs are Paul’s
Artist: Paul Wright
Label: Gotee
Sounds like: rap, reggae, coffee house

Paul Wright is a bit of a musical schizophrenic. This album starts with rap over a kind of ambient hip-hop, before a chorus like Jamiroqui or Scissor Sisters.
Some funky, lazy hip-hop—the perfect vehicle, because of the pure volume of words, for ruminations on girls or God, and for expressing joy (rather than triumph)—is followed by the gothic, almost Evanescent piano and heaviness of “My everything,” then a set of acoustic, nearly solo performances that tend toward the laid-back sound of Jack Johnson. Considering the hip-hop, this is a brave strippingback, especially since his voice is nothing stupendous but songs like “Radio” (about fame attracting girls and the dilemma that creates) show he has an ear for, er . . . radio.
