Album: Undisguised
Artist: Kara Williamson
Label: INO/Integrity
Sounds like: Nichole Nordeman

The album title apparently references Kara’s revealing of her true musical self after her previous incarnation as a dance-pop puppet. The first track certainly aims at stamping her shiny new rock credentials, with crashing cymbals and a snarly vocal taunting, “bring it on.” But pop tendencies are there in the Bangles-ish backing vocals. And next track “Where you are” introduces a shimmering pop sensibility in the vein of Zoegirl or Nichole Nordeman, albeit with prominent guitars. Speaking of Ms Nordeman, Kara also likes a delicately poised piano motif to give a poignant tone during the softer moments. While there are rock leanings, they are worked into a finely produced pop album of the earnest Delta type, with a bouncy, but not boundary-pushing, feel.
