Album: Symmetry
Artist: Edwin Derricutt
Label: Pure Entertainment
Sounds like: Jack Johnson, Nathan Tasker

The former lead singer of New Zealand band Felt and seemingly obscurely-monikered, Derricutt will hopefully become a little less obscure with this release, which shows a simple summery lilt, as one might expect from an album written on acoustic guitar while touring New Zealand in his bus. There’s an under-the-palmtree, Jack Johnson-feel to his sun-kissed guitar—strummed, slapped and picked—and his workmanlike voice, both sitting front and centre, and the way the production has presence without pretension, while his poetic grapples with the everyday, avoiding the obvious and the overly churchy.
