Album: Revolutionary
Artist: Larissa Lam
Label: Log records
Sounds like: Alabaster Box, Margaret Becker

One should always beware album titles making large claims. Yes, yes, we know Ms Lam’s title refers to Jesus’ message, but there’s irony in the fact that the music is so middle-of-the-road. This is about as revolutionary as John Farnham. However, she does write all the songs, and has a reasonable voice, like Margaret Becker or Alabaster Box’s Naarah Seagrott. Come to think of it, the music is similar to the Box’s—gently rocking, with twinkling guitars, tinkling piano and a minimal veil of synths that still allows the music to breathe. And the lyrics reinforce the verse from Romans (printed in the album notes) about not conforming to the world, which we assume Larissa follows by not being radical like everyone else.
