Michelle Gibson

What’s Michelle Gibson been up to since Endless Praise? Wes Jay finds out.

A veteran of Christian music, Michelle performed with Endless Praise throughout 15 countries, including the USA, Mexico, Central and South America, New Zealand and the Pacific islands and, of course, her home country of Australia. Not forgetting stints with Iron and Clay and the Sydney Praise Band.
Now she’s singing to me. Short but sweet. It’s a brief musical meeting. It’s like the sort of treat you’d want everyone to experience. But you’d be hard pressed to fit everyone into this “broom cupboard” studio in Byron Bay on the New South Wales north coast.
Michelle has set her sights on establishing a solo “career,” although this is a word she would not use.
“It’s all about Jesus,” she says. “It’s not about chart success, becoming a star or being the centre of attention, it’s about serving God and using my gifts, whatever I have, to glorify Him.”
Michelle’s self-titled debut album marks a departure from the past. Her unique, compelling, honest voice remains unchanged, but the musical accompaniment has become more stark and direct.
Whether upbeat and dance oriented with a retro-80s feel, or encased in slow mellow ballads, each song reflects Gibson’s own life.
“Never let the sun go down” is a “hypothetical” story of pain and rejection, and the struggle of a girl to forgive her father who left home when she was just seven. Sadly, it’s an all-too-common story that finds resolution and hope in “A brighter day.”
But there’s more to Michelle’s story, one that has garnered significant musical milestones and alliances.
The song “Only human,” which rejects the trappings of Hollywood and the music industry, became a finalist in the dance category of the American Songwriting Competition in 2002.
And “Wanna give you all my love” gave Michelle the opportunity to co-write the song with former EP mate, and now international recording artist, Charmaine.
Michelle’s debut self-titled album is set for release in November 2005. The release is a significant step to her fulfilling her dream to take her music beyond the studio to the nation’s church and concert halls.

Michelle Gibson will be touring around Australia and New Zealand Through the rest of this year and into 2006. Her self-titled debut album will be released in November. You can check out more about Michelle at www.michellegibson.net
