Matt Lucas

His name might be Matt Lucas but that’s where any similarity with Matt Lucas of Little Britain fame begins and ends.
This Matt Lucas is an Aussie drummer turned singer-songwriter who has a passion (as he describes it) "to share God’s love.” Matt says his musical journey has been “heavily influenced” by some of the leading figures in popular music.
"U2 has definitely had a big influence on me, Phil Collins as well—another drummer turned singer-songwriter, Crowded House and more recently, Coldplay,” Matt says.
Among the people Matt has worked with as a drummer are Tommy Emmanuel and Alabaster Box.
"Working with Alabaster Box was such a great experience. They’re such a professional band. They have a really great ministry,” he comments.
The impact of his time with Alabaster Box continues today.
Keyboardist Josh Brown has co-written three songs for Matt’s latest CD Some Days Are Better. These are "Perfect love,” “Winter in my soul” and a remix of his 2006 TRAA hit “Watching over you,” which was written about Matt’s adopted sister from an orphanage in India.
"I’ve watched her struggle to come to grips with her place in this world. So I wanted to remind her that God knew exactly what He was doing when He created her. He has a plan for her life and He’s been watching over her all this time.
"And the same is true for all of us,” he adds.
Some Days Are Better also includes three covers—“Long long way to go” from Phil Collins, “My confession/Your grace” from Paul Colman and Jack Jones, and Kasey Chambers’ “I still pray,” which Matt admits includes a hint of the Paul Colman Trio hit “The killing tree.” Phil Gaudion from PC3 produced the CD, and Don Bartley, who’s worked with Powderfinger, John Farnham, Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil, mastered it.
"I’m very proud of the new CD," Matt says.
