Album: In Wonder
Artist: Magnify
Label: Parachute Records
Sounds like: Planetshakers

Parachute Records NZ release some interesting stuff, with colour and character, but “In Wonder” just sounds like anything from the Planetshakers stable. Perhaps that was their aim. If so, they’ve succeeded admirably. Singer Ric Knott has a clear voice, backed by Marissa Knott’s harmonies. A monochromatic acoustic guitar is overlaid by subtle psychedelic guitar effects and a mid-tempo drum track before power chords drop in like bunker-busting bombs on the flag-waving chorus. There is quality here in the musicianship, production and design. But the music fits far too neatly into the modern worship box.
