Album: Cut & Move
Artist: Day of Fire
Label: Sony/Provident
Sounds like: Foo Fighters

Born-again rocker Josh Brown and co are descendants of the Seattle sound, and apparently listened to a lot of 90s grunge while recording this album. This explains why “When the light” sounds like Soundgarden, and the quiet/loud thing, of course, recalls Nirvana (“Regret” even appropriates the riff from Nirvana’s “Breed”). But they lack the on-the-brink thrill of Nevermind . Kurt’s songs, in addition, were truly clever, memorable and trailblazing (even though he says he ripped off the Pixies), while Day of Fire, at best, are like the Foo Fighters—exhibiting a simple, straight-ahead rock that is almost anti-emo, as perhaps indicated by the album cover. It takes their debut’s fl ame symbol and swaps the red background for black, which, you would have to admit, is hardly what one would call imaginative.
