Album: B Collision
Artist: David Crowder Band
Label: Sparrow/EMI
Sounds like: Jars of Clay, Ollabelle

B Collision is an odd album from a worship band already hard to pigeonhole. Essentially containing pseudo-bluegrass reworkings of songs from the band’s recent sprawling A Collision (except for “I saw the light,” which was already full-blown bluegrass on A Collision), it seems to have been hurriedly cobbled together, and suffers from a lack of cohesion, not to mention mistakes in the sleeve’s track listing. However, they do the Americana thing as well as Jars of Clay, capturing a dark and rustic musical spirit that suits their stated aim of exploring the collision between art and death, with Crowder’s voice even similar to Dan Haseltine’s ragged drawl. A beautiful novelty that threatens to overshadow A Collision’s main game.
