Album: Albertine
Artist: Brooke Fraser
Label: Sony/BMG
Sounds like: Bethany Dillon

The centrepiece of this album is a song about a girl Brooke met on her travels in Africa, who inspired her to sing about the ongoing problems of Rwanda.

She joins a growing handful of artists singing more forcefully about loving God through serving the poor because, as she sings, “faith without deeds is dead.” This may, however, explain why this album sounds a whole lot less funky than her first. It may be more sombre, but there’s no denying her talent, in evidence on—among others— the last two, least obtrusive songs—the delicate reverie of “The thief” and the authentically old-time sounding “Hymn.”
