CSI: Bruce

Will CSI: Bruce help find the Tim Tam–nabbing fiend, or something bigger than that?

CSI—Crime Scene Investigation. You know the idea. A crime is committed, usually murder, and all the resources of CSI, or CSI: Miami, or CSI: New York spring into action.
At least that’s how it works on TV.
I sometimes wonder if I could bring them into play to find out who actually took the last Tim Tam. They could fingerprint the packet. Microscopic traces of chocolate on the fingers would be a dead giveaway. So would Tim Tam crumbs or chocolate breath.
“You were seen loitering near the kitchen at 7.45 pm. Do you have anyone who can verify your activities at that time?” would make a good opening line during interviews.
I was thinking about this when I wondered what scary things a CSI team would find inside my head. Forget CSI: Miami, this is CSI: Bruce.
Scary? Try embarrassing. A CSI team climbs into your brain to check out what kind of law-breaking activity may have gone on. This isn’t about what you’ve done—it’s about what you’ve thought!
I’m happy for them to check out the lounge room of my brain, because I keep that pretty tidy. But there are dark corners I’d rather keep to myself. There’s some things I need to . . .
“DON’T GO DOWN THERE!”
Sorry, I didn’t mean to yell, but if they go there they’ll discover . . . well, let’s just say they’ll discover stuff.
Wait a moment! One of the benefits of being a Christian is that Jesus’ blood covers our sins. Even cobwebbed corners of our brain are covered.
Now, as the crowd gathers to check out the crime scene—my head—police wave them on, saying, “Move along, there’s nothing to see here.”
And there is nothing to see, nothing to find. Jesus’ perfect record is mine.
CSI: Bruce will find no evidence to convict me. I’m not perfect, but when I’m in Jesus, it’s as if I am.
One more thing I need to say, I, er . . . mumble, mumble . . .
What’s that? You couldn’t hear me?
I said I took the last Tim Tam. Happy now? I am, because when you realise and accept what God has done for you, you want to do the right thing—for Him and yourself.
