My Invisible Friend

An invisible best friend? That’s either crazy or kindergarten, right? No, it’s neither, says Sven Ostring. In fact, there’s much, much more to it all. . .

If I were to introduce you to my good friend Jonathan, probably the first thing that you would say to him—after going through the usual polite introductions that our culture instils within us— would be, “Well, what do you do? And where are you from?” When he told you he was an electronics engineer and originally from Cornwall, you would be reasonably well satisfied. I mean, it doesn’t sound anything too far out of the ordinary.

However, if I were to introduce you to my invisible friend called God, I’m sure you would be a little taken aback.

At first you may wonder if I am being serious, but then when you see I am, you may not know what to ask or even how to start to communicate with Him. This Friend of mine is not exactly like any other person you have met before. And once I explain who God is, you’ll understand why.

God is the Person who originally created the whole universe, in other words, the Person who created everything you can see around you and above you in the night sky. Because of this, He actually exists beyond the universe. At the same time, He keeps everything in existence, like the deep power that sustains all the atomic forces that hold you together.

That’s why He is actually all around us, all the while being invisible.

So even if you can’t see God, He can still see you and actually understands everything about you (and can even understand everything you think).

Pretty amazing! Yet, I’m sure you would have noticed that it’s not exactly easy to communicate with God, even if He is right here with us now.

There is something within human nature that acts as a barrier between us and God, and God recognises this. The Bible uses the term “sin” to describe this barrier. Since God loves us so much, He intensely dislikes the barrier of sin that now exists between us, so He took the steps necessary to bridge that gap between us.

The way He did this was by becoming a human being Himself. You have probably heard of Him before—the Jewish man called Jesus Christ, who lived in the first century. If you don’t know much about Jesus, the Bible is full of stories about Jesus—as well as many of His own stories—all of which actually happened.

Jesus lived so we could understand what God is really like. But just in case you still need a final piece of evidence to confirm that Jesus really does represent God, the Bible tells us that after being tortured and executed on a Roman cross, Jesus came back to life after just a few days. That’s God’s stamp of approval on the life of Jesus to say, “Yes, this Person really does represent Me!” So, if you want to know who God really is, find out what Jesus is like. You’ll find Him to be a life-changing friend! This is because He knows you to your very core, since He is the Person who created you and who also holds all of your atoms together. And more than this, He died on the cross so that you could have a totally new life.

From my experience, God is keen to answer your prayers and really wants to develop a deeper, meaningful relationship with you! This journey of discovery is one you will never regret.
