In recent years there has been an increase of magazines hitting the stands of most local newsagencies. The problem with such magazines as these is that they are usually full of ads, gossip and competitions without giving much thought to the style of readership in our 20th century.
Beauty may be seen in the eye of the beholder but it can’t be true beauty if every cover of main stream magazines focus on people being skinny, successful or rich. Imagine the pressure it places on our young and the future generation. If we are living longer according to surveys conducted, then why then are Australians becoming fatter and sicker with chronic health problems?
I believe the answer to such questions is likely to be found in our lifestyles, and instead of reaching for the latest gossip column I searched for inspiration of a different kind.
Enhance is a magazine with a difference and offers amazing insights to issues that affect many in their daily lives. As with other Christian, publications it is available by subscription only. But don’t let that stop you widening your reading choices!
The magazine is generally aimed at woman, so it doesn't matter whether you are a young adult or an old grandmother, you can still enjoy it. It also caters for woman from all walks of life.
Their motto for the magazine is as quoted: “Enhance is created for woman who desire to develop their relationship with their Lord unreservedly, embrace His people unconditionally, and pursue their purpose wholeheartedly.”
In the issue of May/June/July 2005, interviews with leading woman artists were featured, along with stories from woman struggling to meet the demands of everyday living that I am sure many of us can relate too. Details were also included of how aid is reaching the lost, like those affected by the tsunami. There were also stories and information about child prostitution in third world countries, along with many other topics that would touch our hearts.
Enhance doesn’t just focus on things that other woman have achieved in their lives through God. It also acts as guidance for us—a place where we can come and be empowered by the word Jesus has for each one of us regardless of where we stand. All of us have been given a purpose in life to fulfill, and no matter how many times we have to get up and try again, its not failure—it’s a learning curve.
