Dying to be Beautiful
Author: Jennifer Jill Schwirzer with Winston Craig
Publisher: Review and Herald Publishing Association
With the alarming rates of obesity facing Australians at present, with fad diets and so on marketed at us to “lose those excess pounds,” it makes you wonder what the future holds for the next generation.
You’ve either heard or read about the latest diet crazes making everyone else lose weight except you. What works for one won’t work for all and there is no “magic” pill that can speed weight-loss after all!
The reality of dieting has a downside—one that is so high among young people yet seems to be swept under the carpet— and this is the problem of eating disorders. This term covers things like anorexia, bulimia and over-eating, all of which are related in some form to the same emotional issues facing people.
Dying to be Beautiful is a book of help, hope and healing for eating disorders and the author Jennifer Jill Schwirzer would know because anorexia almost took her life away in 1978.
Eating disorders are not just about food—it’s more about what is going on deep inside a person emotionally and mentally. It’s not like a list where you tick things of to decide whether they affect you. Jennifer’s story has been written to give others hope and healing, and to let people know that they do have the ability to escape eating disorders.
The book deals with all the things you may be trying to grip of, including standard therapies (including her reviews of them), stories of struggle and triumph that lift the heart and the victory of turning away from demons and closer to God.
Each page you turn will capture your spirit and deepen your relationship with God. Some may be saddened by the content, others uplifted, but the best part is that Jennifer is here; alive and well, sharing her story.
As the book is an American publication the help content and support networks are based in America, but a few website links in the book may prove useful to some.
This book is a great story of achievement and encouragement for those out there who’ve come face-to-face with eating disorders, whether you are a sufferer or a survivor.
