Discovering
God's will
What is my purpose? What does
God really want me to do or
to achieve with my life?
The question of purpose and God’s will for us has often been asked and reflected upon. We tend to ask this question many times as teenagers, and later as we enter adulthood and responsibility.
In his book, A Practical Guide to Discovering God’s Will, Troy Fitzgerald tackles this question of purpose in our lives and how we can discover God’s will for us.
“Discovering God’s will is only a part of the journey.” The other part of the journey is choosing it. Fitzgerald makes a very valid point in suggesting that sometimes we fight God’s will and try to replace it with our own.
“Whether you possess a strong will or you are more compliant, your will needs to be aligned with His will as you learn to live God’s plan for your life,” Fitzgerald writes. God’s will or our will? Do we fight against God or do we allow him to direct us to places we may not have planned for our lives? Fitzgerald provides a strong directive for readers as he discusses the discovery and journey of God’s will.
A Practical Guide to Discovering God’s Will is an exploration into how we can best discover what purpose God has for our lives and how best to seek this with Him. Fitzgerald breaks his book into three parts: the search for God’s will, the discovery of God’s will and doing God’s will.
At the end of every chapter are questions for personal reflection, providing a great chance to discover where you are as an individual.
The import a n c e o f asking these questions and journeying to find the answers will never lessen. Fitzgerald points us in directions that may provoke some reflection on our design and purpose for God.
As Fitzgerald notes, “Discovering God’s will is not only a quest for young adults. It matters to anyone seeking God’s input in major decisions.”
