Seeking God
Is God looking for you or are are
you looking for Him?
Life is not an easy road to travel along. Life can in fact be very, very difficult. Christianity promises a relationship with God—a God who is alive, interested and involved.
We’ve all heard the amazing stories and testimonies from people who have been saved from great calamities and difficulties by their relationship with God. The Bible is full of stories of how He personally intervenes to save His people from harm.
On the other hand, we’ve all heard of the persecution and hardship faced by people who believe in God throughout history and around the world currently. People who believe in God still face difficulties and have problems to work through. God promises to be with us through all our difficulties.
He also promises to be with us when things are going well, when life is fun and things are fantastic. Because it isn’t always in the bad or difficult times that God can feel far away. Sometimes life can seem to be going really well in every way except for our relationship with God.
In many of the psalms he wrote, David spoke of hard times and the difficulty in feeling close to God. Mixed with his exclamations of praise are pleas for God to come close and give help. “Save me, O God,” he cries in Psalm 69, “for the waters have come up to my neck. . . . I am worn out calling for help” (verse 1, NIV).
There’s hope for those who feel that God is distant. God promises to be found if we seek Him. In Jeremiah 29:13 He says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (NIV). But what does it mean to seek God with all our hearts? How hard, how long? We have to ask ourselves the question: To what lengths are we prepared to go to find Him? Sometimes it might take time—but He has promised to be found.
God promises to be found if we seek Him, although there is no promise that every problem will go away. But there is great comfort in the fact that He promises to be with us in all our difficult times.
