Matt: good morning
Dave: Likewise. Have you had a chance to read the study for today?
Matt: yep
Dave: What did you think?
Matt: it was...amusing...how many different ways u can ask whether the Sabbath is Sunday or not
Dave: most Christians don't even know about the importance of Sabbath.
Matt: true
Dave: There are some though who know about the Sabbath and yet ignore it because "the law was nailed to the cross" and yet that seems to be the only law they have nailed there.
Matt: true
Dave: Have a look at Ezekiel 20:11-12. What reason does 'Zeek give us for honouring the Sabbath?
Matt: umm, as a sign between us so that we'll know that God is our God, by coming to worship Him every Sabbath
Dave: True. What about for those watching us? What will Sabbath keeping help others to know about us?
Matt: that we aren’t ashamed to follow God's law
Dave: yup. People will see that God is the most important thing in our lives
Dave: What about for us? What does Sabbath keeping do for us? Have a look at Isaiah 58:13-14.
Matt: we'll find joy in the Lord
Dave: Good! So now we know what the Sabbath does for us, how it speaks to others, but what about God? Why is the sabbath so important to Him?
Matt: because its a holy day for us to worship Him
Dave: When God gave the commandments (Exodus 20) what word did he use at the begining of the Sabbath commandment that he didn't use on the other nine?
Matt: remember
Dave: What does the word "remember" suggest?
Matt: that we might forget the Sabbath
Dave: True. This is how it is often applied. But what else could the word remember mean?
Matt: wen God created the world He made the seventh day holy
Dave: Yes! have a look at Genesis 2:2-3. Is the Sabbath something only created for sinful humans who need rest?
Matt: no
Dave: When was the Sabbath given (before or after sin)?
Matt: before
Dave: What about the other nine commandments?
Matt: after
Dave: Hmmm... What does this tell us about the Sabbath?
Matt: that it is for God as well as us
Dave: Good point.
Dave: When will Sabbath keeping no longer be important?
Matt: never
Dave: What will we be doing on the 7th day of the week throughout eternity?
Matt: praising God
Matt: keeping the sabbath :)
Dave: True. True. You've got it! If you had to put the reason you keep the Sabbath into one sentence, what would it be?
Matt: coz i want to
Dave: :)
Dave: That's good! It gives us a glimpse of what it was like to walk with Jesus in the Garden of Eden. It gives us a fortaste of what heaven will be like.
Matt: ya
Dave: We can start celebrating now!
Matt: yep
Dave: The Sabbath is our "pre-sin" connection with God.
Matt: ya
Dave: Before there was sin, there was Sabbath, after sin there will be Sabbath. Keeping the Sabbath is a time when we step out of this sinful existance for a brief moment.
Matt: true
Dave: What is the most special about Sabbath for you?
Matt: umm, it sorta depends, coz sometimes, particularly at camp, i can feel God's presence and that's pretty special
Dave: Yeah, I love camp!
Matt: same, its great
Dave: What about normal Sabbaths?
Matt: sometimes
Dave: What does Sabbath mean to you on a weekly basis?
Matt: most of the time i like being able to go there and worship God with friends
Dave: Cool. That is what Sabbath is all about, meeting God and growing closer to His people.
Matt: true
Dave: Well, should we pray?
Matt: yep. Dear God, tx for making it so clear in the Bible that the 7th was the day You wanted us to keep as the Sabbath and tx for the Sabbath day, a time to worship You, :). please be with us until our next study:) Amen
Dave: Dear God, Thanks for the Sabbath. It reminds me that when You created us You wanted to spend a whole day every week just with us! Amen!
