A Picnic in Heaven
I remember a phone conversation I had when I was only four years old.
I’d been listening to a Heritage Singers for Kids album just before my Grandma phoned us. I was quite excited to hear on the album that “There’s Gonna Be a Picnic in Heaven,” so when I picked up the phone for my turn with Grandma, I blurted out, “Grandma, did you know there’s going to be a picnic in heaven?”
She replied that she did know. I then asked her if she was going to be there and she began to cry.
Unbeknown to my little four-year-old innocence, Grandma was a backslidden believer. She knew all the joys of the kingdom to come, but she was living contrary to the principles of Jesus.
As a Christian it is my goal to present that same question to people today. Whether they be backslidden believers, faithful followers or pagan potentials they need to hear the clear message that there is a King waiting for them in a kingdom of joy and peace.
Friendships, work relationships, chatting with strangers, Bible studies and sermons are all potential avenues for sharing this life-giving message.
I aim to spread this message in every way possible to every person possible so that, by God’s grace, the impossible might become possible. It is my goal to bring the kingdom of heaven into people’s hearts.
I passionately believe we have a future that rivals any other into insignificance! Jesus loves us beyond words and He is coming back soon to take us to be with Him. Life is worth living for this reason alone. People need to know the amazing truth of Jesus’ love as soon as possible.
Your friends, family, workmates and classmates all need invitations to the picnic in heaven. Jesus gave us a great commission to take the story of His love and grace to all the world. If you’re looking for a job description in life, look no further than Matthew 28:18-20. It will fuel your passion, motivate your action and cultivate the kingdom if you just let it get a hold of you. Let’s plan for that heavenly picnic and ask God to use both you and me and grow us in any way necessary that will accomplish His great purpose.
For years now I’ve been telling people the same thing when I say goodbye. I say, “We may not meet again before Jesus comes. But when we get to heaven, I’ll meet you under the tree of life on the seventh day in heaven.”
There is going to be a picnic in heaven and I’m planning for it, inviting people along and hoping to see you there too.
