5Q4 > An Adventist Webmaster

Jeanelle Isaacs is the webmaster for the South Pacific Division and has recently organised a website for every church in the division.

1 What websites have you mastered? > The main website that I work on is <adventist.org.au>. The site started with an average of 2000 unique visitors per month and has grown to 10,000 unique visitors. I also help other departments set up project websites, such as www.cyclingincircles.org.au and the 2007 12th Gate Pathfinder Camporee website .

2 What’s the best thing about your job? > I love my job because I get to do lots of different things! It can involve anything, rom creating and designing websites and content to training webmasters around the South Pacific Division, and planning projects nd strategies for the future. It is also great when we receive enquires from the web, asking more about our church.

3 You’ve just made more than 900 websites—
why? >
Well I thought I’d add some more excitement to my job! Our church needs to be part of the virtual world if we want to continue being relevant to society. So we created a website for every local church, school and office around the South Pacific. The beauty of a website is that it breaks down a lot of barriers that may stop someone from coming to church. Now, a person can find out about your church without having to physically be there.

4 How can young people be involved on the web
for their church? >
Young people today are very web savvy and can contribute lots of ideas to make their church website relevant. If you are part of a youth group, add your news and events to the website. Take photos and videos of your socials and upload them to the web. Visitors to your church website will see what exciting things are happening and may be attracted to attend your church. You can also volunteer to be the webmaster for your church. If you want to find out more about the website created for your church, visit http://web.adventistconnect.org .

5 Are you afraid of spiders even though you are a WEBmaster? >Yes! They are creepy
and some of them bite. As long as they only stay inside my computer screen, it’s all good!

There are now more than 900 Adventist websites,
provided by the South Pacific Division. Your local
church or school is probably involved. Wondering
how to find it? The address will be http://[your
church/school’s name].adventist.org.[au or nz]>.
The websites feature news, calendars and links—
including to The Edge—on them for you to check
out. Your church hasn’t got one yet? Then check
out http://web.adventistconnect.org .
